Living in the jungle has good and bad sides. One of the good one is that you get to see so much pretty things. In Puerto Viejo, especially around our cabina, everything is green, lush and wild. Every once in a while, you’re going to be lucky enough to see a splash of color. After visiting the cloud forest, I now know why flowers aren’t green! Because if they were, birds, bees and other pollinator would never see them. If flowers are pink, red, orange, purple or yellow, it’s because they catch the animals’ eyes. It makes sense, really. When …
Plants of Puerto Viejo
Monteverde and the cloud forest
After Arenal, we were going to Monteverde. There’s two ways to get there: by car, or by boat. Going around the lake takes waaay longer, we booked the boat trip. We were on the lake for half an hour and it was just so quiet and peaceful. The only thing Chris was thinking about is: where could I put a cabin here? On the other side of the lake, we still had a good two hours of car. It was the hardest two hours in my life. The roads were in dirt and kept going up and down. We kept …
A Day in Arenal (Zip-lining and tube river rafting)
Because it was on our list to go see a volcano and do some zip-lining, we decided to combine all of that! On our second day in Arenal, we got picked up at our hotel in the morning to drive close to the volcano, where the zip-line was. We did the Sky Tram/Treck tour and had tooooons of fun! The first zip-line was the highest one and it was CRAZY to fly like that, on top of the rainforest. It was a bit scary of course (Chris was more scared than I am, which is kind of impressive in itself!), but …
Baldi Hot Springs
We decided to visit a little bit of Costa Rica this weekend and be tourists for once. First place we stopped was La Fortuna/Arenal. We arrived there at 4 pm and had nothing to do on that first day, so we decided to visit the hot springs. I was expecting a few pools, like what you would find in a spa in Canada. Nope. That’s not what it was. Baldi was actually a gigantic resort with slides, pools from 110F to 60F, very expensive lockers and average food. We actually had a great time there, after being on a shuttle for …
The Animals of Costa Rica
There’s a few animals here, since we live in the jungle. Some are scary, some are friendly and some are just… really weird. Let’s take a look at them! (Okay, not ALL of them are going to be animals, some are insects…) THE GIANT MOTH (Really Scary) We were just outside in the kitchen (because yes, the kitchen IS outside) when I saw something that looked like a flying around the lamp. I may have scream a little bit and thought the bat would leave, because they usually don’t like light. Well, this thing stayed! So while I went hiding …
